چکیده

Background While cardiac involvement including heart failure represents the first cause of mortality in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IM), subclinical alterations may be largely underdiagnosed by conventional tests. CMR T1 mapping may provide more sensitive diagnostic markers of cardiac involvement in both acute and chronic phases in IM irrespective of cardiac function or late gadolinium enhancement (LGE). Our aim was to determine the ability of CMR T1 relaxometry derived parameters to detect subclinical cardiac involvement in IM.

Non-invasive differentiation of idiopathic inflammatory myopathy with cardiac involvement from acute viral myocarditis using cardiovascular magnetic resonance imaging T1 and T2 mapping

BACKGROUND Idiopathic inflammatory myopathy (IIM) is a group of autoimmune diseases with systemic myositis which may involve the myocardium. Cardiac involvement in IIM, although often subclinical, may mimic clinical manifestations of acute viral myocarditis (AVM). Our aim was to investigate the usefulness of the combined analysis of cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) T1 and T2 mapping para...

T1 Mapping for Myocardial Fibrosis by Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Relaxometry—A Comprehensive Technical Review

Cardiac magnetic resonance (CMR) imaging has been widely used to assess myocardial perfusion and scar and is the non-invasive gold standard for identification of focal myocardial fibrosis. However, the late gadolinium enhancement technique is limited in its accuracy for absolute quantification and assessment of diffuse myocardial fibrosis by technical and pathophysiological features. CMR relaxo...

Systemic sclerosis: detection of early subclinical diffuse myocardial fibrosis and impaired left ventricular strain by cardiovascular magnetic resonance

Background Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is characterized by widespread tissue fibrosis including the myocardium. Diffuse myocardial fibrosis can be detected non-invasively by extracellular volume (ECV) imaging based on preand postcontrast T1 measurements using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR). We hypothesized that multiparametric CMR, including T1 mapping, can detect subclinical myocardial i...

Early detection of myocardial involvement in idiopathic inflammatory myopathies detected by cardiac magnetic resonance imaging

Background Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies are heterogeneous systemic autoimmune diseases that are characterized by progressive muscle weakness and typical inflammatory infiltration in skeletal muscle. It is known that a cardiac involvement may occur; the frequency varies between 9% and 72%, mainly depending on patient selection and diagnostic procedures applied. Most common finding is a pro...

Subclinical myocardial inflammation and diffuse fibrosis are common in systemic sclerosis – a clinical study using myocardial T1-mapping and extracellular volume quantification

BACKGROUND Systemic sclerosis (SSc) is characterised by multi-organ tissue fibrosis including the myocardium. Diffuse myocardial fibrosis can be detected non-invasively by T1 and extracellular volume (ECV) quantification, while focal myocardial inflammation and fibrosis may be detected by T2-weighted and late gadolinium enhancement (LGE), respectively, using cardiovascular magnetic resonance (C...
